Starting September 30, 2025, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will stop mailing paper checks. From that date forward, you’ll need to receive your benefits as Social Security electronic payments.

Already using direct deposit? You’re good to go. Still getting a paper check? Choose an electronic option before September 30, 2025.

Use a prepaid debit card if you don’t have a bank account.
Receive funds automatically each month and spend them anywhere debit cards are accepted.
