Member Alert:

Scammers Using AI to Take Over Bank Accounts

We want to warn our members about a serious scam that is increasing across the country. Credit unions and community banks — especially smaller ones — are being targeted.

Criminals are now using advanced computer technology (AI) to sound more believable and move faster than ever. Their goal is simple: get into your account and move your money.

What Is Happening?

Scammers are calling members and pretending to be from their credit union. The phone number may even look real.

They may say:

  • There’s suspicious activity on your account

  • Your card has been compromised

  • You need to verify information immediately

Then they:

  • Direct you to a fake website that looks real

  • Ask for your online banking username and password

  • Ask you to read back a one-time passcode sent to your phone

Once they have that information, they can:

  • Log into your account

  • Change your phone number or email

  • Lock you out

  • Attempt large wire or ACH transfers

  • Target business accounts as well as personal accounts

This can all happen within minutes.

Important: We Will Never Ask for This

Green Country Federal Credit Union will NEVER call you and ask for:

  • Your online banking password

  • A one-time passcode texted to your phone

  • Your full debit card number

  • Secure login codes

If someone asks for this information — hang up.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Never share your password or passcodes with anyone.

  • Do not click links sent through unexpected calls or texts.

  • If something feels off, hang up and call us directly.

  • Use the phone number on the back of your debit card or on our official website.

  • Check your accounts regularly.

If you think you may have given information to a scammer, call us immediately. Acting fast can make a big difference.

We work hard to protect your money — but the best defense is awareness. When in doubt, call us.
